Since 2002, Judge April C. Wood has served the people of Davidson County as a District Court Judge. Judge Wood presides over domestic violence cases, juvenile cases involving the Department of Social Services, juvenile delinquency cases, child custody and support cases, equitable distribution of marital property cases, criminal cases, traffic matters, involuntary commitments, and other civil law disputes. Judge Wood has handled complicated and high value cases involving businesses and high conflict cases involving children and families.  Judge Wood is the Davie County Truancy Judge where she is committed to doing what is necessary to resolve the issues that are causing children to be unlawfully absent from school.  Her dedication has helped reduce the dropout rate in the community.  She has also completed all of the necessary education requirements and is a Certified Juvenile Court Judge.

Both Judge Wood’s parents hail from Lexington and after Judge Wood’s father retired from the Marine Corps, her family returned home to Davidson County where she has remained to raise her own children. Prior to being elected to the bench, Judge Wood maintained a law office in Thomasville.

Currently, Judge Wood is a member of the board of directors for Cancer Services of Davidson County and for the Epilepsy Association of North Carolina. She also serves on the Salvation Army of Davidson County Advisory Board.  Since 2003 she has been a frequent DARE graduation speaker.

For the past nineteen years, she has been an active member of the North Carolina Memorial Day Celebration Committee in Thomasville. This committee is especially important to Judge Wood as she believes it is of utmost importance to honor and remember the men and women of our Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

For Judge Wood, serving the people of Davie and Davidson Counties is not a job - it is a calling. Since 2002, Judge Wood has found that being a judge is a serious and often difficult role, but she is guided by her life-long commitment to leaving this community better than she found it. Judge Wood’s experience and integrity make her the the best candidate for the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
